IATF 16949:2016 Requirements

Two of the Frequently asked questions and reply by IATF is reproduced here.
“QUESTION: Why are there two manuals (IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 9001:2015)? Two manuals instead of one manual makes it much more difficult to read and understand the requirements”.
“IATF ANSWER: The IATF and ISO were not able to reach a licensing agreement to publish IATF 16949 in an integrated document. In order, not to further delay the launch of the new IATF 16949 standard, the IATF decided to publish in a two-manual format. Prior to release, the IATF did confirm with international accreditation organizations that other industry sectors use a two-manual format model to define their sector-specific requirements, and auditing with the two-manual model, while not optimal, is effective.”
The IATF maintains strong cooperation with ISO by continuing the liaison committee status ensuring continued alignment with ISO 9001. (Source; http://www.iatfglobaloversight.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/IATF-16949-Frequently-Asked-Questions_October-2017.pdf)
However, industries are still struggling to have documentation which can cater to needs of both the standards. In addition, there is also a requirement to have ISO 14001 as a certifiable standard for most industries in Automotive sector, which is further complicating and making documents voluminous net result being slipups in maintaining documents and retaining records for all three standards.
Quality System Enhancement Inc(QSE) has a unique proven system for creating documentation integrating all three standards. This system of a simplified, single level, evidence-based, integrated document system takes out all the hassles of a multi-standard, documentation system. ISO Organization developing a new standard, ISO 45001, Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems which can also be added to the system and get an Integrated Quality Management System Manual which will not only work as a guide to manage but is a tool to review the effectiveness of the system. Typically for most industries, this manual does not exceed 25-30 pages or even less.
QSE can guarantee approval at stage I audit by any certifying agency. QSE has a proven 10 Step path to certification. QSE will guarantee certification if all 10 steps are implemented in any facility, small or big.
Another frequently asked question answered by IATF is as follows:
“QUESTION: Product Safety: What is the scope of this clause? Many organizations focus on regulatory/statutory requirements of the product and do not believe they have product safety-related manufacturing product or processes.”
“ IATF ANSWER: This clause focuses on product and manufacturing process characteristics that affect the safety performance of the final assembly. These characteristics may not be directly addressed in regulatory/statutory requirements, but may be defined by the customer.”(Source; http://www.iatfglobaloversight.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/IATF-16949-Frequently-Asked-Questions_October-2017.pdf)

Even in situations where a Customer has not specified the product Safety Requirements, it is imperative on the part of Automotive manufacturers to have knowledge of the final use of the product being produced and understand the intent and implication of this clause.

QSE’s simplified integrated documentation system takes in to account all standards clause by clause and the system can stand test of any scrutiny/audit
