US FDA and the Canadian equivalent have ordered a recall on the above mentioned items. The reason can be traced to the failure of Hazard Action Risk-based Preventive Control plan (HARPC) at the manufacturer’s end. Each link above will give details regarding the recalls.
In the present day of heightened communication systems through social media and internet, the news of recalls is reaching far and wide resulting in reduction in consumer confidence about the food they buy. In view of these recalls consumers are demanding greater emphasis on traceability
Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) does not call for Traceability of supplies in to Food Manufacture but definitely does encourage it. Dr. David Acheson, ex Director of Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) with an experience of 30 Years in food safety and medical research said “ Certainly, one of the biggest challenges for food companies is managing data, “The expectation with FSMA is for companies to gather more data and act on it,” he said. “Whether a company uses 10 or 1,000 suppliers, it has a constant stream of information coming in that needs to be analyzed.”
John Keogh said that all food manufacturers obtain immense Data from their suppliers regarding various aspects of food safety and physical conditions at the time of shipment. This data needs to be captured and incorporated in to labels to be designed futuristically. He also said that theses labels could be future Smart Labels for Food, emphasizing safety of food for human consumption.

FDA announce Holding of Public Meeting on FSMA Prevention-Oriented Import System Regulations and Implementation
“February 25, 2016
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced today a public meeting, entitled “FDA Food Safety Modernization Act: Prevention-Oriented Import System Regulations and Implementation.” The public meeting will provide importers and other interested persons an opportunity to discuss import safety regulations and programs, including final rules for foreign supplier verification programs for importers of food for humans and animals and accreditation of third-party certification bodies. The meeting will be held on March 21, 2016 from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm at the FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), Harvey W. Wiley Federal Building, 5100 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD 20740.

FSMA in its final rule notification in November 2015 has made HARPC as a mandatory compliance obligation.
